The Portland Newspaper Guild is pleased to again offer the Ed Beardsley Memorial Scholarship to high school seniors and current college students who are the children of Portland Newspaper Guild-member parents. There are two scholarships available: one for the children of a parent who works in Waterville or Portland and another for the children of a parent who works in South Portland. Both scholarships are for $1,000 and are for students who will be starting or continuing their college careers this fall.
The scholarship will be awarded based on the answer to an essay question. This year’s question is: “What do you think newspapers and newspaper websites will look like in 20 years? What kind of content do you think will be the most important for readers?”
Answers should be 300 to 500 words and submitted via e-mail to scholarship@local128.org. They will be stripped of identifying material and judged by three members of the Guild who do not have children competing for the scholarship this year. The deadline is Aug. 7 and the hope is to make a selection and notify the applicants within a week.
We encourage all who are eligible to enter. Good luck!
